As you have probably heard, retailers are now able to charge up to a 4% “Checkout Fee” for consumers using their credit cards to make purchases. The new fee stems from a multi-billion dollar settlement announced in July between credit card issuers and millions of merchants nationwide. This fee is only for credit cards and doesn't apply to purchases made using debit cards. These fees were blocked from implementation in 10 states, but it is legal in Michigan.
Keep in mind that retailers that are imposing this new fee must clearly state so with signs within the store or online as well as clearly indicate the fee on your receipt. If you are doing business at a retailer that charges the fee, you can choose to use your Team One Debit Card, write a check or pay with cash instead to avoid the fee.
